FOUNDER

Meet the Founder

Mires, a Hudson Valley native, has been involved with soccer nearly his entire life. After playing at Pine Bush High School, Mires attended and played at SUNY Ulster before transferring to Manhattan College (now Manhattan University) and playing his final two collegiate seasons there.

Post graduation, he coached with several youth and premier clubs as well as at local schools Mount Saint Mary College and SUNY New Paltz. In his lone year at SUNY New Paltz, the underdog Hawks set a team wins record, won their first ever conference title and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

After letting go of the coaching reins, Mires found himself continuing to facilitate a passion for soccer locally. This time, as a community hub, with watch parties for the World Cup and Champions League finals. This growth continued and fostered a relationship with Premier League side, AFC Bournemouth and includes several officially licensed beers made with Newburgh Brewing Company.

The relationship building didn’t stop there, as CDU Newburgh, in conjunction with Newburgh Brewing Company, has been featured on Premier League Mornings (NBC Sports), frequent contributions to Premier League Fanzone, and now hosts official supporters clubs for AFC Bournemouth, Brighton & Hove Albion, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City.

These passions have afforded Mires the opportunity to travel all over the country, as well as into South America and Europe for the beautiful game. It is with great pleasure that we have created this oasis in the Hudson Valley for you, the fan, to continue enjoying the beautiful game in an inclusive environment regardless of your team of choice.

Here in Newburgh, some of the events that CDU Newburgh has enjoyed facilitation include:

  • Private visit with AFC Bournemouth (and Vegas Golden Knights) owner Bill Foley

  • Hosting an annual Boxing Day party with the Premier League

  • Helping to manage and facilitate a film production crew with the US Premier League social media team

  • Hosting AFC Bournemouth legend Steve Fletcher for a meet and greet to kick off the Premier League Summer Series
